A unanimous council has decided to back a proposal from a group of member federations on how to achieve the goal of becoming an Olympic sport.
It is a brave and visionary idea that has been in its making for some years that will now become defining for the future of our sport and the Olympic ambition.
Choosing Labyrinth-O as our Olympic discipline has so many obvious advantages that it could not be ignored. First and foremost labyrinths are met by fascination no matter where you go in the world and is well understood in all cultures. Secondly it ensures a plain and fair playing field where the competition format is well-defined and equal conditions can be ensured no matter where the Games are being held and with equal opportunities for all athletes and federations. Thirdly it has a huge advantage that the stadium facilities already exist with arenas that can be filled with spectators making for a perfect backdrop for TV-production.
And then of course the dynamic, high-intensity short duration, easy-to-understand knock-out competition format is a winning recipe when comes to please and persuade the IOC council by demonstrating our ability to meet the demands of a younger audience on social media and of modern TV-production constraints.
With this revised approach we are highly optimistic about the prospect of becoming Olympic. Now it only remains to be decided if we are aiming for the Summer or Winter Olympics. Of course we do prefer the Summer but it may be easier to join the Winter-OG and Labyrinth-O is equally spectacular on skis.
